Humans are long gone, and the landforms of the world have evolved after their departure. The lines of reality have been lost in the change, and a freak gene has been added to the blood of the world's creatures. Many animals have built up immunities to this gene, and are uneffected by them. But one animal stands alone in the absence of reality - the wolf. Horribly tormented over years of evolving, the wolf's physical and mental abilities have surpassed that of normal animals. They have powers that weren't conceivable a hundred years prior, nor were they believed to exist. And the growths on their backs have become wings, enabling the once earth-bound creature flight.
Though with every gift, there is a price. And the Gods of Animals noticed that the wolves were taking the small continent, the remains of earth - unpoluted and untouched by the past lives of humans - Aceilia, over by power. The Gods were not happy with this, and thus banished a good part of the population of animals away from the pathetic remains of earth, to come live with them in a euphoric atmosphere, leaving the wolves alone.
They believed they were the last species on earth, until they found that there was, indeed, prey. Though it never wandered into the three now designated clan areas. Instead they seemed to be confined by invisible forces to areas uninhabited naturally by wolves. Seeing this, the packs came together in turmoil. They all needed food, and enough to live, but with sparse prey, how were they to do so? At first they did it harmoniously, scheduling different times to hunt for each pack. Though eventually jealousy rose, wolves were noticing that more prey was out during a different pack's hunting time then theirs, and thus they split into chaos. Losing contacts with one-another, the three packs went on with their own business, hunting whenever they pleased.
Though the prey seemed to dwindle quicker than it had before, leaving the now magical canines to fend for themselves. With their food supply dying, they needed an alternative to their lifestyles.
And quick.
